Last week, the mom of one of my organ pupils said the piano - TopicsExpress

Last week, the mom of one of my organ pupils said the piano teacher has asked her not to let her son learn the organ because the organ affected his touch (apparently she didnt complain about the younger son losing any of his piano touch). I said, hey guy, you must be practicing the organ for 5 hours a day and deserted the piano, thats why the piano touch is leaving you. Of course his touch would be affected if he stopped practicing the piano, that is simple logic. Its simply two different instruments, if you maintain the skills for one or the other but not both, you lose some techniques or touch or whatever for the other one, no one can be spared from it. I dont see how a boy who practices maybe 15 minutes max a day (and not every day) the organ can lose his touch on the piano, that is simply against all logic. This is jealousy talk from the piano teacher because he is enjoying the organ a lot. I remember intentionally stopped playing the piano (and for a year or so intentionally bashed on the piano to forget its touch on purpose but returned to it a few years later such that the piano majors at grad school couldnt tell I wasnt one of them) to adapt a different touch for the organ, and for the harpsichord, so I have acquired different touches for different instruments, just like my hubby wont blow the clarinet like he blows the trombone. There is no problem, only conflict of interest and jealousy.
