Last week we had the honor of hosting our (retired) military group for their sixth trip to our Bass Retreat. These men have been fishing together for many years throughout their military career/retirement and each year, for the past six years...they have come from all over the US to spend time fishing our lakes. This group personifies the expression of: When the going gets tough - the tough get going. Mother Nature tried every way possible to stifle their skills, but to no avail. Jeff OLear, of Canadensis, PA changed over to a spinnerbait and stole the show with an 8-lb 1-oz largemouth. And just to prove it was no fluke, he backed that up 30 minutes later with another 7-lb 9-oz lunker. Not to be outdone, Mike Casey and Gene Auerbach stayed on their soft plastic patterns and caught three bass just over six pounds. Now the strategy session begins of when to return in the spring to resume their quest for a double-digit largemouth.
