Last week we launched Operation Get out of Jail across the country as we noticed that the number of women in prison had drastically increased due to convictions brought about by the Public Emergency regulations in force as a result of the Ebola crisis. Today we are pleased to report that two of our longstanding prisoners in Kenema were released today after our Kenema Duty Counsel represented them in the High Court and they were sentenced to terms of imprisonment equal to the length of time in custody (7 years and 5 years respectively). A further lady was acquitted and discharged of her case as the Prosecution failed to produce enough evidence to substantiate the charge of Administering poison. Well done to our Kenema team who have carried on working within the quarantined town of Kenema.
