Last week we were going through a list of petitions and trying to decide how to share all of the atrocities against animals. There are so many that it was depressing. Everyone knows the best way to be effective is to work on one cause at a time and not spread yourself too thin. We obviously cant focus on every cause no matter how good it is even though we wish we could. There is a lot of compassion fatigue with animal care workers because the need is so great and too few people helping. We have been tinkering with a bird hug a week feature on facebook but didnt have enough photos. We came up with the bird hug challenge and It just seemed like the breath of fresh air we needed! Now we are overwhelmed with your happy pictures and never expected to see so many! The challenge was meant to bring awareness to these birds who make great pets but sit in shelters and rescues unadopted. Sadly most rescues, like us, who take these birds are always overwhelmed and at a point we have to turn animals away. So we are fine with rescues and fans SHARING our challenge in the spirit of rescue. We were recently made aware that a factory farm type breeder copied our challenge word for word but took our name out and put theirs in as the beneficiary. This challenge was not meant to increase sales of birds or pad the pockets of breeders. Its upsetting that someone thinks stealing our idea to promote bird sales is ok because its not. We do not support anyone who breeds birds or sells animals in pet stores etc while these animals are dying due to lack of placement. Please adopt dont shop until there are none left who need homes.
