Last weekend saw the start of a Christmas campaign to tackle shoplifting, anti-social behaviour and anyone looking to cause trouble in Cwmbran Town Centre. The campaign involves the Cwmbran Neighbourhood Team, Cwmbran shopping staff and security and all stores in the town centre working together to tell troublemakers ‘You’re not welcome!’ Officers will be patrolling the town centre and the Lockgate Retail Park during shop opening hours and offenders will also be monitored on CCTV so they can be tracked whilst in the town centre. All stores signed up to the Businesses Against Crime Partnership also have a ‘Storenet’ radio which allows messages between themselves and the police to be communicated quickly and effectively. PC Jo Skinner form Cwmbran Neighbourhood Team said, ‘We want members of the public to feel safe when they visit Cwmbran to do their Christmas shopping and we want to make sure the stores are protected from shoplifters. ‘Officers and all stores will be vigilant and anyone looking to come to Cwmbran to commit crime will be dealt with.’
