Last weekend two members of the Warrenton Fire Protection District who are also members of Missouri Task Force 1 Urban Search and Rescue Team participated in a a thirty-six hour joint training exercise with Nebraska Task Force 1 outside of Salina, KS. This is a realistic full-scale Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) exercise which was designed to test and evaluate many facets of the two Type I FEMA US&R Teams and a FEMA US&R Incident Support Team. The exercise simulated the aftermath of an EF5 tornado that touched down in Salina, Kansas. Within a few hours of the “mock” disaster occurring, local resources became overwhelmed and the call for Federal US&R assets were requested by state and local agencies. The rescue scenarios the two teams had to negotiate include simulations of an apartment building/parking garage collapse with people trapped inside an elevator, a train derailment and tanker leak, a hospital collapse with hazardous materials release, and a wide area search for victims at Lake Kannapolis Photos from- MOTF-1 and NETF-1,
