Last weekend while delivering a paper route at 3 am for a friend I saw a black bear that had been hit by a car (I assumed) on the side of the road. I thought this was a rare sight and stopped and tried to take a pic on my phone. Yesterday in a small weekly local paper we have here in Cherokee County I saw an article saying that my bear brought the total of killed bears on the highway in the county was up to 7 in the past 6 weeks which was surprising to the authorities because the average in the county is maybe 1 bear a year. They are saying the unusual amount of bear sightings and accidents is because of a shortage of acorns this year because of the weather, and it is bringing the bears into the more populated parts of the county looking for food. Personally the bears can have my share of the acorns
