Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place on Friday and Saturday, resulted in 33 arrests involving 27 misdemeanors, two felonies and eight warrants served. Seized were 6.4 grams of marijuana, 2.6 grams of cocaine and 500 pills. At least twice a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the seven precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crime and activities in various areas of Nashville. Friday’s enforcement consisted of four SID detectives, four supervisors, 27 patrol officers and three canine officers. Areas targeted were Murfreesboro Pike, Hillside Avenue, Mt. View Road, Perkins Street, Charles E. Davis Boulevard, and Charlotte Pike. Saturday’s enforcement consisted of three SID detectives, five supervisors and 18 patrol officers. Areas targeted were 26th Avenue North, Jefferson Street, 14th Avenue North at Buchanan Street, Archwood Place, Gallatin Pike, and Dickerson Pike. So far this year, Operation Safer Streets has resulted in 1,302 arrests on 84 felony charges and 1,212 misdemeanor charges, 16 gun seizures, the service of 402 outstanding warrants, 200 field interviews of persons believed to have gang knowledge and 7,221 vehicle stops in areas with a gang presence.
