Last winter, after posting a lot of stuff on here about making a change but not actually getting up and doing anything about it apart from attending a few marches I decided to start my own annual march. So roughly this time last year I made an event called Elf Not Wealth - A family friendly, peaceful, Christmas themed march against government corruption and corporate greed over the festive period where we will be handing out parcels to those less fortunate who find themselves living on the streets. The idea and purpose of this being that there are homeless people who dont have anywhere to go for Christmas and that a product of our ill society is that people will walk past doing their Christmas shopping without even so much of a thought about that person sleeping rough in the shop doorway. Its far too easy to judge these people and write them off without having a think about what reasons there are why they could find themselves in that situation, how hard it must be not to have anyone to support them and how lonely, helpless and worthless they must feel over Christmas time. So, on Saturday 14th December last year around 100 of us met in Trafalgar Square with parcels of food, clothing and anything else that might come in handy and headed towards Oxford Street with the intention of highlighting the fact that their are people with absolutely nothing to these people doing the mad Christmas rush and that there were people out there who did care. There were also concurrent events in Manchester and Kingman, Arizona. Elf Not Wealth was born.... On the 13th of December (which is the busiest shopping Saturday of the year) we will be heading out again with exactly the same intentions. Weve now joined forces with Anoymous Op Safe Winter to get bigger and better coverage and build on what was a resounding success last year.
