Last year I retired from teaching in NC. I gave up my astronomy research. I was exhausted. I just didnt have the energy to do it anymore. My memory was foggy. I couldnt remember names of people I had known for years. Id forget names of students after a holiday break.. My sleep cycle was a mess - I was tired, but couldnt stay asleep. My doctor told me my HDL levels were too low, but nothing I did seemed to improve them. Yesterday, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Now my symptoms all make sense. Ill be taking thyroxin tablets the rest of my life, but Im looking forward to feeling well again. More than 5% of Americans (10% of women) have hypothyroidism and arent aware of it. If you have some of the symptoms listed below, ask your doctor to check your TSH and T4 levels at your next physical. I wish I had done it several years ago!
