Last year UTI in Houston asked me to do a show for them at their campus and we ended up getting rained out. They asked me to give them a rain check and someone come again when they called. Well, about a month ago they called. So I knew I would be in Houston soon. Having Hailey with me, I wanted to seize the opportunity to make the most of the trip that I could. After all, she is from South Korea and has never been to Houston before, so everything I could possibly pack in for us to do would be valuable and awesome. I have been planning the trip for about 4 weeks. We left for Houston Friday the 26th and due to traffic we pretty much took 6 hours to get there. It was exhausting but we made the most of the time by singing songs together in the truck and enjoying music as we waited. We were all in a fantastic mood. We checked into the Hyatt Regency downtown Houston, a nice 4 star hotel. We got hooked up with the room from a friend, so thanks for that Dan! Saturday morning we were up and out to get setup for the UTI Houston Block Party at the UTI Campus. It is NOT typical for me to do a daytime show, and this might be the first one I have tried to do in about 3 years. We had a nice setup, with Ben Miller joining us from Dallas to sell gear, a food truck, DJ setup and prize booth area. I was not thrilled with the turnout, which was around 75 cars. Still, we had a fun time together and got to see the firemen do a jaws of life demo on a poor Cavalier... which was awesome. I think when I come back to Houston to do a show I will make sure it is at night! After we packed up the show, we hurried over to NASA and saw the Shuttle Carrier plane, and the Rocket Park. At the Rocket Park you can see the famous SATURN V rocket which was used to take man to the moon for the first time, and was shown in dramatic fashion in the movie Apollo 13. I have never been to NASA and will certainly return for a full days visit in the future as this was more of a pitstop. After NASA we went to the Kemah Boardwalk, which is an amazing place to visit. We checked out the whole place before deciding on dinner at Saltgrass. Hailey rode the Boardwalk Bullet while we waited to get sat, and we ate steak next to the window overlooking the gulf of Mexico. Speaking of steak, this was the first time Hailey had ever eaten steak in the USA/Texas, and also the first time she had ever had steak WITHOUT steak sauce. I told her about and she trusted me! Guess what, she LOVES IT and was shocked at the flavor and juiciness. Wonderful! After Kemah we went to Battleship park to see the Battleship Texas and the San Jacinto monument, but it was after dark and this place was dead... literally. It was VERY scary to be out there alone at night... so we got out of there! LOL! Still, it was Haileys first ever time to see a battleship! Back in downtown Houston, we hit up the Aquarium for a night of entertainment. We did the full aquarium exhibit, stingray reef and shark tunnel train ride. The night was capped off with dessert on the 2nd floor next to the huge fish tank. The manager surprised us and comped our bill. SWEET! Sunday we slept in, and then got up and checked out of the hotel. We drove over and met up with a facebook friend who offered us FREE CLUB TICKETS to the Texans VS Bills NFL game at NRG stadium! Hailey has never seen a NFL game in person and Ashley and I had never been to NRG, so of course we said yes! The seats were FANTASTIC both in view and comfort, even had a waitress come by and take our order if we needed anything. Best of all the Texans won, and we EASILY parked and got in and out of the place. It was crazy how easy it was. Coming home we stopped by Bucees (ok, we stopped coming down too) for some Jerky and snacks, and got home a lot quicker than it took to come down. We are worn out from the fun, but we had such a great time together as a family! We did not have very much time in Houston, but I think we packed a lot in and had some fantastic experiences. Ashley was in good spirits and Hailey had a smile on her face non-stop. My girls were happy, and thats all that matters to me. :D
