Last year a friend asked me to look at reroofing his house because he wasnt sure about the contractor that gave an estimate to patch it. I went over and inspected the roof to find 10 layers on it. The first was a standing seam roof which was actually fastened directly to the trusses. Then asphalt shingles, a thin aluminum layer, and more asphalt. He had actually found a contractor who would patch it in and call it good. Needless to say, it became a complete tear off and new roof over the course of the next several days. For perspective, we got 4.5 tons off the back half of the roof alone.
