Last year on this day, I collected my last semester mark-sheet - TopicsExpress

Last year on this day, I collected my last semester mark-sheet from college and was excitedly packing for the Foundation Course, with sari-practice sessions, making long checklists, happy and content and grateful at the turn my life had taken. Bidding goodbye to student-hood was a painful feeling, knowing that gone were the days of ambling down Chatra Marg, D-School canteen lunches and long afternoons spent in the Stephens library. One year later. the last leg of IPS training. i have laughed and wept and slept and learnt and perspired and daydreamt and spaced out through much of it. Done what i thought was impossible for me. Diving into the 18ft deep end of the pool despite my hydrophobia, leaping off a cliff into the icy waters of the Ganges, rock climbing and rappelling 60 feet above the ground, cantering and jumping obstacles on horseback, making my maiden foreign trip to the beautiful Sydney, learning weapon firing from a range of rifles to pistols, mock jungle operations, 15 km cross country runs, 30 km route marches, martial arts, aerobics, yoga, battle obstacle and assault course. Learning that life will now be lived in the public glare, bidding goodbye to any modicum of privacy, realizing that the professional world is a harsh, often unforgiving space. This place is insane for the sheer variety and, in the same breath, monotony that it can thrust on you. The point of this epic sized status? to Facebook- record my learnings and gratefulness on this one-year anniversary into the uniformed services. Happy that i have to spend far lesser time now justifying my unconventional career choice to the world at large. Thanks for the patient reading , my friend!
