Last year, the Conservancy supported the HCM nomination for Superior Grocers/Shoppers Market, with no avail. In a unanimous vote, the City Council’s Planning and Land Use Committee disapproved the Cultural Heritage Commission’s recommendation to designate the site as an HCM. Today, the remodeling of Superior Grocers is complete. According to The Eastsider LA, “The new exterior of the 34,000-square-foot building features faux stones, wood columns, rafters and a pointed roof. The only parts of the building’s original Googie-style architecture to survive are some patterned, concrete-block walls partially hidden by signs.” Check out the full article here: ow.ly/A2hBH
