Last year, there was a massive typhoon sweeping the Philippines. On 8 November 2013, the average wind speed was 300km per hour, causing storm surges over four metres high. The super typhoon, said to be one of the strongest on record, caused an estimated about US$ 13 billion in damage and affected more than 12 million people and it rendered at least 4 million homeless. Actually, the Philippines sufferes 20 time typhoon annually becuasue unfortunately, their territory is located on the center of most of the typhoons in the world. The Philippine government, private sector, and non-governmental organizations have been implementing massive reconstruction program for Haiyan, but the process has been slow and at times frustrating for two reasons. Actually, due to the serious damgae of Hayiyan, most of the local traffic systems were corrupted, so this makes it difficult to carry on neccessary equipments and relief goods. Moreover, Philippine politics has long struggled with corruption and it seems that it is getting worse. The late President Ferdinand Marcos, was ousted in 1986, everyone thought freedom and clean and honest government were going to reemerge, but it didnt happen. Therefore, the aid for Haiyan victims does not seem to be used transparently. The worse thing is, around 7million people employed in various service, agricultural and manufacturing industries, but they lost thier jobs owing to the sudden natural disaster. To be honest, building back the trade and industry sector is not that simple, so it seems that it will take a long time to give victims specific solutions for this. Considering the poor situation of Haiyan victims, international people need to have attention to them. There are many of the non governmental organizations helping restoring the damaged district of Haiyan. If you enroll in your name as a donator in their websites, you can easily help the victims. I hope philipinoes can be consoled through even tiny help.
