Late Friday afternoon around 4:22 PM the Bell County Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a chimney fire at the home of Nancy and Richard Lee in the Colmar Community. Upon arrival at 4:46 PM fire personnel found a structure fire with the 2nd story fully involved. Additional fire units were requested to the scene. The fire was extinguished when the scene was cleared a few hours later just after 8pm. No injuries to the Lee’s or firefighters were reported. The BCVFD responded with 12 firefighters and 5 pumpers. Early Saturday morning at 4:57 AM, the fire department was call back to the scene due to a rekindle. Upon arrival personnel found the home fully involved and were unable to make entry into the structure. The scene was cleared at 7:50 AM with no injuries to civilians or firefighters. Nancy Lee says that she and her husband have lost everything in the fire, but that a friend and temporary renter invited them to stay with her until their house is rebuilt. The cause of the fire seems to involve the chimney, but the rekindle is under investigation. The Colmar fire station of the Bell County Volunteer Fire Department only has 7 members with 5 of them living in Middlesboro. They are in need of interested Colmar Community members to become volunteer firefighters with the station protecting their neighborhood. More members result in better response time. For more information about becoming a volunteer firefighter please contact the Fire Dept. on the BCVFD Facebook Page, call Headquarters at (606) 337-8080, or simply stop in on a Thursday evening at 7:00 PM for training. (Thank you to the BCVFD for the majority of the content of this story and pictures from Nancy Lee)
