Late last month one of our terrific Peace Corps Volunteers, Caitlin Haden, and our Culture Affairs Officer, Lisa Larson, joined more than 37,000 children across Uganda who “dropped everything and read” (or “DEAR” for short). The National DEAR Day (on March 26) was initiated to encourage a positive reading culture here. Currently there are 104 schools and organizations within 23 districts in Uganda who participate in the DEAR program. I really admire the work Caitlin, Lisa, and others are doing through this program. Empowering children to read is such a wonderful way to make a positive difference in their lives!
