Late last night, after a long day of teaching (114 students) I prepared for my last class of the day. A group of men and women sat before me who had taken up an instrument lets say, a little later on in life! During the lesson they played together, along to music. A few short months ago they had never learned or even held a musical instrument. Now, they are so engrossed in their playing they cant see the tears of joy rolling down my face. One woman, eyes shut tight smiles from ear to ear. Another, feeling the rhythm from deep within is moving so vigorously to the music Im ready to catch her. One man cant take his eyes off his hands and gets closer to the drum unconvinced he is actually producing that sound. Captivated by the music and unaware of everything around them they sit back amazed as the last note is played. They glance at each other revealing a youthful gaze and a giddy laugh. The smile disappears from one mans face as he says, That was OK wasnt it? What a way to finish your day!! Thank you to all my students. You continue to amaze me and never fail to brighten up my day!
