Late last week we received the news that Rubens father, Ramperkaash Rajender Kumar Bansie - known to many of you as Ra or Raj - suffered a fatal heart attack while at home with his beloved wife, Tineke. It was the last thing we were expecting to hear, as Ruben was preparing for his annual trip home to Amsterdam to spend time with his dad, in the apartment he grew up in. Raj was the love of my life, the father of my son & stepfather to Natascha - we would have found each other anywhere in the world. Fellow vagabonds, gypsies, and seekers, we were blessed to enjoy family life together thuis in de Jordaan, traveling the inland waters of the Netherlands on our salon boat, exploring pyramids in Mexico & skinny dipping in Calas Covas. He spoke 8 languages fluently. When he ran away he rode his bicycle to Marseilles, he lived in a cave on the beach in Crete, worked the vineyards of France, was Bhagwans chutney maker in Pune, and was a chai wallah in Vondel Park. Raj was the very first person I met in the first cafe we went into, the first day in Amsterdam, November 6, 1985. Ruben was born on November 6, 1986. I cant imagine a world without him. Everything he did he did very intently, very intensely. I have no doubt that he is enjoying his new adventure wholeheartedly & joyfully. Ruben is in Holland with Tineke and the family. My heart is with them, and my children.
