Late night proof reading... .. Dr. Raphael Njoku International Studies Office, Idaho State University Graveley Hall Room 103 Phone: (208) 282-3043 Fax: (208) 282-3186 Email: [email protected] RE: Frank Church Symposium - 2014 To Whom it may Concern: My areas of interest and concern: From your list, these are some areas of my interest, concerns, and involvement in descending order.: • Corruption and Human Rights • The Local Application of Human Rights • Culture and Human Rights • Ethnic Cleansing and Genocidal Practices • Human Rights Activism in the 21st Century • Universal Health Care and Human Rights • Internet Freedom and Censorship • Universal Education and Human Rights • Journalists and Human Rights • Peacekeeping and Human Rights • The Nuclear Threat and Human Rights • Gender and Human Rights Abstract: Title: “Human Rights from the Ground up!” In todays society, from our educational institutions to the general media and internet, the values and the application of our Human and Civil Rights has been present in much rhetoric, but often extremely absent in action. Must we have to have a million marchers on Washington to make a point or to salvage those rights that have so far barely survived the butchers block? We only have to but look in the mirror to realize whos to blame. We know you are afraid, worried about your life, your livelihood, your future. Who wouldnt be? But what future is worth having if we let the educational institutions, the politicians, the government agencies, even the courts run a muck with our rights. Can we make a stand? Take our governments back. I think so. Activism as well as our rights begin with the land, therefor an active environmentalist I am. But as we are part of the land, those that threaten it for greed and power then threaten us all, people, children , and those enumerable creatures that we share this precious globe with. If I may mention a good movie, “Promised Land.” The issue then is: Can we keep the promise? If we do not educate, fortify our human rights, and apply our rights to exist with dignity as our right to make a life worth living, how will our future generation survive at all? Sincerely, IL , or you might want to use L.M.K.,” or M. L. All are part of are my clan names. (But of course even my name is just cause for some to violate my Civil Rights. Intersting, aeh!)
