Late one night on one of the few non-cable video music shows I had - TopicsExpress

Late one night on one of the few non-cable video music shows I had access to Back in the Day, this song crept into my television, disturbed my brain, and sold me for good and all on David Bowie. The hints of a complex, nuanced point of view (whaaaaa?), the breathtakingly weird chord progressions. Looking at it now there are certain moments of WTF 80s-ness to the video itself, and an image vocabulary with an inherent danger of being misinterpreted by someone who doesnt pay close enough attention to the whole. Still, here you go, because this is one of my standard earworms during OMFG its going to keep being the Crusades forever and ever times. (The other one is Israel by Siouxsie, which yeeeaaahhh wasnt going to go over any better.) (Spoiler: the song is about the Western share of the responsibility for the Moebius-trainwreck and the irony of doing messed up shit in the name of divine love. In my own head the final line and you BELIEVE youre loving the alien is the painful little twist that says no, youre not playing pretend, what youre reaching for IS there, and youre hurting it when you do this, but I cant swear Bowie would be with me on it. In other words, if you even dream of replying with the assumption that either Bowie or I have declared a Side in this posting I will have a fit. As in any war or threat of war, I am Team Dammit Why.) https://youtube/watch?v=lkd1uGonwG0
