Late this afternoon, I switched locations from the Loblolly to the RAINBOW BOTTOM, so named because of the Rainbow Bend in the Wabash River nearby. Before it was every recognized as developing preserve, my friend, Mert Sprunger, and I used to meander on the already established trails along the river on this area near our childhood home. My dad, uncle and I used to pick up hickory nuts back in this area. Relatives would clean them and my mom and grandma would convert them into hickory nut fudge, hickory nut ice cream, icing, brownies and cake. Todays walk in that area was total peace, except for the songbirds. I continue to be amazed at the ways of nature and how each order has their plan of God instilled within them. I was touched today by watching geese flying in twos with their lifetime mates, once again the hawks riding the currents above me, the buds starting to burst in response to the sun, and the quiet river reminding me of Psalm 23s words, He leads me beside the still waters. Still waters are deep and quiet waters, from which we can draw depth of living and deep peace....kind of reminds me of the song, Ive got peace like a river, or peace, peace, wonderful peace, coming down from the Father above, sweep over my spirit forever I pray, in fathomless billows of love.
