Late yesterday I had a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent. It - TopicsExpress

Late yesterday I had a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent. It was brief and probably fruitless on my part but an interesting intellectual exercise. It began with a Bible trivia question. Who was the mother of Jesus? I responded with the quip, A more interesting question would be, Who was the father of Jesus? One can only imagine what the answer was, God! So I asked, with feigned intellectual interest, Which God? and went on to use a number of references, both Biblical and historical to bolster my query. I mentioned Jehovah, Elohim, YHWH, Aten and Ahura Mazda as possibilities for this God. That question was answered with, You must dont believe in the bible. Thats all am going to say..,. I suggested that she with whom I was corresponding learn proper English and capitalization for a start and then at least have the knowledge and/or courage to stand up for what she claimed to believe. I was told, Kiss my ass! In the words of Neil deGrasse Tyson, Thats messed up! Pondering the depth of human stupidity and hypocrisy kept me awake until 4 this morning. I am left with the suspicion that people of faith are not all that bright. I know that is unfair. Surely there are bright and intelligent people who have strong religious views and hold deep faith. This was simply an instance where one person made all of her fellows look horribly bad, like the one ethnic guy that robs a liquor store or the one teenager that does something stupid and their collective groups are branded with the same mark as the perpetrator. All I could do was chalk it up to extreme cognitive dissonance on the part of my opponent. Have a great day folks. I love all of humanity but some of the human race needs to be culled. Maybe, for the sake of harmony, it should be me. LOL :D
