Lately Ive been a bit discouraged when it comes to my work & contribution with the Sarcoidosis Cause! Lately I have been contemplating on shutting down my group and foundation pages because my vision for what Id like ASFL to be has not come into full fruition! Every year I struggle with the questions ... Are my efforts worth the energy? Am I actually helping my members? What can I do to further my mission and extend my reach? When I was diagnosed back in 2006, I started out with the main goal of learning more about this disease and finding ways to share information with others to help raise awareness! However along this long, tiring 8 year journey my personal awareness about the LACK of personal resources available to assist Sufferers & their families with day to day needs was heightened and I realized that this was the hole I wanted the ASFL Sarcoidosis Foundation to fill! In order to effectively execute my vision for ASFL & provide the services & resources that I know many people need or could use I would first have to become a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Foundation and as we all know that takes money! Most people who know me know that I dont like asking people for help and especially NOT money ... So instead of campaigning for donations to raise money for a professional to set up my Non-Profit, I decided to sell awareness merchandise with the hope that I would raise enough money to pay and get it done! Unfortunately, manufacturing, selling and mailing out merchandise never yielded enough funds to meet that goal and most times I ended up taking a loss and if I was lucky Id break even! My point in writing all of this is to let ALL of you know; I want ASFL to be able to do MORE!! I personally want to do more ... I dont want ASFL to be just another support group, I want ASFL to be a reliable resource that helps to fill the day to day needs of Survivors or else whats the point?!? Im NOT giving up faith or hope, I KNOW one day ASFL WILL BE an official 501(c)3 non-profit but until then I want to know from ALL of YOU, what things can ASFL do to help you on this journey? How can I make this network more effective? There are only 7 months until Sarcoidosis Awareness Month and come April 2015 I dont just want to come up with another online awareness campaign, I want to affect lives in a positive way and begin providing resources &/or services that will help ease someones journey!
