Lately Ive been implementing lots of gymnastic training into my new training program. Seeing me training and performing some apparatus work, got my clients very interested in the gymnastic skills . One of the 9 international gymnastic apparatus are the legendary rings ! The Rings and gymnastics it self goes back to early days of the ancient Greeks. Main muscles used on the rings are the following ! * Shoulder Muscles Your shoulder muscles help make the transition from your head and neck to your arms and hands. As a large movement of the joint, your shoulder muscles are highly complex, including stabilizing muscles as well as those responsible for larger movements. The primary muscles used in gymnastics-ring exercises are your deltoid muscles, which make up the rounded muscle area that constitutes your shoulders. To do swings, lifts and holds, your rotator cuff muscles — the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, subscapularis and teres minor — are also used, while the tendons in your muscle help control the movement and providing support and stability. * Arm and Hand Muscles Your arm and hand muscles are needed to use the gymnastic rings, and a firm grip and strong arms are required to hold the rings and your position on them. Your biceps and triceps are used to provide support to lift your body above the rings and maintain stability. Your wrist and hand muscles -- namely the lexor carpi radialis and flexor digitorum superficialis -- flex your wrist and fingers, which helps you keep a firm grip on the rings so you don’t accidentally slip and fall. * Abdominal Muscles Less of a focus than your shoulder, arm or hand muscles, a strong core is still needed to keep your back straight and your body upright as you use the gymnastic rings. Any ring exercise that requires a straight upper body or that needs to twist or bend your torso will work your transversus and rectus abdominus muscles, as well as your internal and external obliques, which run along the sides of your waist. * Back Muscles Your back is made up of numerous small and large muscles, almost all of which are used when exercising on the gymnastic rings. The latissimus dorsi is a large muscle that helps with arm adduction and extension, vital for safe and proper use of the gymnastic rings, particularly when you reach up and forwards to pull up your body to ring level. As well, the trapezius, scapulae and rhomboid muscles all stabilize your shoulder blade, and your erector spinae muscles — which run along your spine — control forward bending and help keep your torso in a sturdy upright position.
