Lately Ive been thinking alot about the difference in modern popular music compared to music of the past. Bands like Rush, Pink Floyd, Motley Crue, Journey, Tears For Fears, even band that I may not have liked at the time. They all wrote songs that told a story. They wrote real poetry. The songs meant something. Popular music today isnt written by the performer. Its not even poetic. Its random words or phrases repeated over and over again. No poetry at all. No story. Sure you can dance to it, and act like an idiot, but theres no talent. Even going back further, I would much rather hear the pain in Patsy Clines or the crack in Willie Nelsons. True story tellers and true poets.
