Lately Ive developed a love/hate relationship with going heavy on dumbbell pullovers. As terrible as they feel to me, they have increased the range of motion of my glenohumeral and scapulothoracic joints, and, when you can go really heavy on them, theyre as intense a compound movement as the bench press, in my opinion, as they work the back, chest, and serratus anterior all in one exercise. Theyre rumored to expand the actual ribcage, particularly in trainees in their teens whose connective tissues are more malleable. If you throw them in your program, make sure to work up carefully in terms of weight and dont overdo the range of motion beyond your specific level of flexibility. Take them one step at a time.
