Lately Ive had several people repeatedly tagging me in posts to promote their businesses without contacting me first to ask permission. They tend to do it by tagging massive amounts of people in their posts each time. This is a personal pet peeve of mine, and my suggestion is to NEVER arbitrarily tag people for your own self-serving purposes. I understand the thinking... Tag me and it appears on my wall so that all of my online connections will see it. Thus, more people become aware of your business. I get it. I really do. But tagging friends on promotional posts for your product, service, or business is totally inappropriate unless you have talked to them and they have agreed that it is okay to do so. I can guarantee you I wouldve most likely said yes to one time, but not an ongoing barrage of advertising. Do not tag everyone you know just to gain exposure for your business. It is purely self-serving and is not professional or in good taste. Not to mention that repeated tagging will generally piss people off. If you want to advertise a business thats great... Pay for Facebook ads, boost your post, etc... just like the rest of us. But for Gods sake, quit using your online connections without their permission! A certain amount of social responsibility comes with marketing a business. Use it wisely, and don’t be rude and invasive to others. As a business owner, you want to be seen as a leader and respected for your professionalism, not seen as someone who uses those around them for personal gain. Thank you for understanding.
