Lateral Trunk flexion (lateral spine tilt or leaning to the side) - TopicsExpress

Lateral Trunk flexion (lateral spine tilt or leaning to the side) has a direct influence on five major things: (1) swing slot space creation; (2) footwork; (3) stability at the line; (4) a stronger release position in the downswing and (5) accuracy. SWING SLOT SPACE Leaning to the outside adds space under the head and shoulder. FOOTWORK With lateral spine tilt, the naturally response of the body, to sustain balance, is the ball-side foot will naturally cross-over the slide foot on steps 2 and 4 of a 5-step approach. STABILITY With added lateral trunk flexion, the trail leg will naturally move away from the slide foot further adding more stability at the foul line. STRONGER RELEASE POSITION When leaning, the arm will move under the body moving the forearm forward (elbow-in) and the palm following the forearm into a stronger hand position more to the center of the ball and the hand more to the inside of the ball. INCREASED ACCURACY When a bowler adds lateral spine tilt, the head naturally will be on the swing line longer, from start to finish.
