Latest gartner report An increase in sensors and connectivity - TopicsExpress

Latest gartner report An increase in sensors and connectivity for the Internet of Things offers new opportunities for non-optical sensor vendors, in a variety of low-volume end applications. Semiconductor product managers should continue to develop customized offerings, ensuring ease of use via strong ecosystems. Key Findings 1. The role of sensors in the Internet of Things (IoT) will be shaped by three main trends: an increasingly fragmented end application market with no winning application, falling prices and the use of sensor fusion to remain competitive, and the evolution of sensor ecosystems. 2. Cooperation is vital to enable the IoT, and ecosystems for developers are a necessity. These will enable developers to use vendors products to devise new ways to handle the vast amounts and layers of information gathered by multiple sensors. 3. The fragmented nature of IoT markets means that the requirements for software are as varied as the end applications. This requires different software development and support structures that go all the way from the OEM to the final end user.
