Latest post from Caring Bridge Lochlan had a really good day yesterday!!! We actually heard his evil giggle thru out the entire day, a VERY good sign that Lochlan is feeling much better. Lochlans blood counts dropped over the weekend and I was told a consult order for Oncology was put in the computer on Saturday, that means Oncology should be coming to see him, right?! No one came to see him Saturday or Sunday so I continue to ask why they are not coming to see him and all I am told is that the order is in and that is all they can do! So the liver team makes their rounds on Monday and his blood counts have dropped again, so again I ask why has oncology not come to see him. And I get the same answer, and an I will check into that and let you know! So Monday afternoon I called the oncology office myself and asked why no one has come to see him, they tell me there is nothing in the computer and until they put a consult order in there is nothing they can do!! It is absolutely terrible that we rely completely on electronic devices and can do nothing by word of mouth any more!! So the nurse manager comes to talk to me about all the drama over the weekend and I tell her about this consult order deal. I am told they will check into and see what is going on. The NP from the liver team looked into and realized the Resident on Saturday did not enter the consult order correctly and that is why no one had been to see him. So it took 3 days of me asking multiple different people to find out there was yet another mistake made!!! Why will no one listen to me?!?! It is so damn frustrating!! So this morning Onoclogy final gets the correct orders and comes to see him. She is asking why his port was not double accessed with his first fever over a week ago, why blood cultures were not taken out of both lumens of his port all 3 times he spiked a fever, and why they are not doing blood cultures daily?? Does that sound familiar or what?! That is exactly what I told them needed to be done and that is exactly why I continued to ask for oncology to come see him!!! Very frustrating!! She did also want to know why there was not a peripheral blood draw and I told her she could blame me for that!! So his blood counts have continued to drop, we dont really have a clear explanation for it. But the CDiff, the port infection and the antibiotics can sure contribute to it!! He is getting blood right now and he got a shot earlier to help boost his neutrophil count!! It it appears as though his stomach may be working in full force now so we are going to try feeding him again. My only request was that we do,it very slowly so we do not have a repeat of last time and they actually agreed with me!! They put specific orders in the computer for his feeding regimen and some nurses will only follow that and not listen to me or call the doctor to have the orders changed to my requests. So this time they WILL listen, I will make sure of it!! But we have an awesome nurse today, so I do not have to worry about it!! And if we get the same nurse tonight that we had last night that will be perfect!! Lochlan loves his male nurses!! Lochlan has had a good day so far, praying that his night will go well also. Sometimes blood transfusions can get the best of him!! I posted some really cute videos of Super Lochlan on his Facebook page from yesterday. If you are on Facebook check out Love for Lochlan. I can not get them to post here!
