Latest press release. Congrats to JOHN GRAY, as this was a 2011 poll, based on 2006-2011. Impressed that John Gray is acknowledged by John Aker and Oshawa Staff.. Media Release The Corporation of the City of Oshawa For Immediate Release October 16, 2014 Oshawa ranked Top 10 Canadian community for new residents OSHAWA – The City of Oshawa has been ranked as a Top 10 community in Canada for new residents in a recent economic report. The Island Coastal Economic Trust’s report used data from Statistics Canada’s 2011 National Household Survey to measure net migration patterns to determine where residents are choosing to live within Canada. According to the economic report, “the communities that are most desirable as a place to live are, quite simply, the communities that attract the most new residents compared to the number of former residents who move away.” In the September 2014 report, the Oshawa metropolitan area fared well ranking #4 for net migration within Canada from 2006 to 2011. Additionally, Oshawa ranked #2 for attracting new residents between the ages of 25-49. The report asserts that after age 25 people start transitioning into their working and family-raising years and are motivated to live in whatever community provides the mix of lifestyle and income potential that they desire. “This is excellent news and confirms that Oshawa is a desirable community to raise a family and build a meaningful career. This is a community where you can live, learn and prosper,” said Councillor John Aker, Chair of Development Services Committee. “It is wonderful that Oshawa is being recognized as an amazing city and we would like to see even more people choose Oshawa as their community.” Island Coastal Economic Trust was created by the Government of British Columbia in 2006 to support economic development initiatives on central and northern Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast. The Trust funds community-driven economic development initiatives in targeted sectors to spark new and sustainable regional economic growth and diversification.
