Latest psuedoscientific claim making the rounds on social media. This is really dangerous, especially with the rise of diabetes in the USA. Heres what I just posted on my FB account: So people often ask us Skeptics Whats the harm? as in Whats the harm if I take this homeopathic formula to cure my illness? or Whats the harm if people want to go see a doctor in Texas who says he has the cure for cancer that no one else knows about? Heres the harm: LIVES ARE AT STAKE! The photo below showed up on my brothers FB feed a couple of days ago. The first question you should ask is How the heck would this work? The second thought you should have is I should ask my doctor about this. Diabetes is an awful, chronic disease. Sometimes it CAN be managed with diet and exercise but many times it cannot. Failing to take insulin shots because okra water will make diabetes go away can lead to all sorts of problems including blindness, limb loss and death. THIS is the harm. Everybody wants an easy cure. Unfortunately, biology has made that impossible. Misleading people by promoting pseudoscience is harmful, unethical and, in my opinion, criminal. Here is the Snopes response to the photo below: snopes/medical/homecure/okra.asp
