Latest update: I have now completed the initial rounds of Chemotherapy and my doctor has been pleased with the results. My body has apparently responded adequately to it with numbers coming down and in some cases going back to zero. Tomorrow begins the next phase of the process: stem cell mobilization. This entails · Tomorrow (Monday) going to hospital for the night where I undergo some high dose chemotherapy and hopefully pull up well enough to come home on Tuesday morning. · On Wednesday begin a self-administered course of injections (twice daily) to foster stem cell production. I do this for 6 days, then…. · Tuesday 29th head into the Wesley hospital for a blood test, the results of which will hopefully allow them to begin the stem cell collection process which takes about 4-5 hours a day over two to three days. What follows then is some more treatment preparing me for the transplanting process when I have my stem cells returned to me. But more about that later….. For now, I am happy to report that I have experienced a good few weeks: I have probably felt my best for a couple of months with little side effects of any treatment. The usual suspects are still present: tingly hands and numb feet are my constant companions but the worst they do is in keeping me awake at night. Fortunately some pills before bed are working wonders and I had my best night’s sleep last night in weeks. Yippee!! I am a bit anxious about tomorrow and the next week or two but I know that this is the tried and true process so bring it on! Stay tuned for more……..
