Latest update from Burl Kreps of the Black Forest Community - TopicsExpress

Latest update from Burl Kreps of the Black Forest Community Church, UCC: Friends, I was able to visit our site this morning and can share this positive report. All the buildings are safe, intact, and without any apparent damage. There is a faint smoky odor in the buildings but no soot. On the front steps were a few burnt embers but nothing happened. You can travel to Shoup on Black Forest Road but the National Guard is at the intersection and one can not travel in any direction from there. I parked in back of the church because there are large water tankers parked in our lot and they are used to supply the smaller trucks coming to load up and return to the fire area. One can see the damage across the street with the ground cover burned and there is some damage to the trees. The trees directly north of the Morman Church look like match sticks as they are burned badly. The Mormon Church was not damaged. The filling station and Firehouse restaurant were not damage and the Community Center is still there, although the trees surround the area are burned. There is a good possibility that we may be able to gather for worship at our facility on Sunday. We will let you know as soon as possible. The electricity is on but was off for awhile. Other utilities seem to be working. We are very fortunate and can express our appreciation to all those who have battled this blaze. Our buildings have escaped but we know of members who are not as fortunate. Our expression of sadness is profound and extends to each and everyone. Let us stay united in support in many ways now and in the days before us. We probably will be able to be at the office tomorrow or at least by Wednesday. The only way to arrive at our site is coming north on Black Forest Road from Burgess. Thanks be to God as I close with loving blessings for all of you, Pastor Burl
