Latin American burglary suspects held after high-speed chase The Star 17/8/13 SHAH ALAM: Two Latin Americans were arrested by police on suspicion of being involved in burglary less than two months after entering the country. Acting Selangor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk A. Thaiveegan said the two men, aged 31 and 36, entered the country in July on tourist visas. He said a patrol unit in Putra Heights noticed three men in a Honda MPV behaving suspiciously on Aug 14. “As police officers approached the car to investigate, they sped off, leading to a high-speed chase,” DCP Thaiveegan told reporters at a press conference. The 30-minute pursuit on an expressway saw the burglars ramming through a toll booth barrier. The suspects ditched their car in Section 28, Shah Alam, before fleeing on foot, but two of the suspects were caught while the third man is still at large. DCP Thaiveegan said the suspects had used fake number plates on their rented vehicle. “We found a number of break-in tools like screwdrivers as well as other paraphernalia like gloves and caps,” he said, adding that the suspects would be remanded until tomorrow. DCP Thaiveegan also said that a gang of robbers linked to a robbery in July had been arrested. Five suspects, aged between 20 and 27, were arrested separately in Kelana Jaya and Teluk Panglima Garang on Thursday, and would be remanded until next Wednesday. “They have no criminal records, but we have evidence linking them to the case,” he said. During the July 28 incident in Banting, five men robbed a home of valuables worth RM80,000. thestar.my/News/Nation/2013/08/17/Latin-American-burglary-suspects-held-after-highspeed-chase.aspx
