Latley my teacher Eric Soderman has been on my mind. He passed away from cancer years ago. His name keeps getting brought up in random conversations. Im going to be learning to play guitar soon and it was really him that sparked my interest in the blues. He showed me who John Mayer was and made me listen to his music to and from Fort Frances. Eric was also a guitar player and a very good one. He was the first person who I was very close with that passed away. I remember that I took it very hard because he was an amazing person and he believed in me. I was a grade 9 drop out before I met him and I thought that I wasnt smart, but he helped me see that I am actually very smart. He loved my poetry and asked if he could make copies of the things I would write lol! He really helped me at a time when I had no faith in myself. He was also a herbalist and made me a homemade salve called soddies salve incase I ever got stung by a bee cuz he knew I was terrified of them. I went to see him while he was in the the hospital and he told my mom and luch to make sure they keep me safe and protect me from the bees. I still have that salve and dont let anyone use it. I really dont think I would be where I am today without him. When I started school I had zero credits and I did 31 courses in 15 months. Thats a lot of work they didnt have PLAR when I went there and I didnt get any maturity credits. I have a permanent indent in my finger from writing so much. When I graduated I was the Valadictorian I had the higest GPA and got some other awards. I am very thankful I met this person and that pain of losing him still affects me today. Just in a reflective kind of mood right now.
