Laughed at by a Random Young Lady and other Absurdities!! Here is another odd incident I would like to share. On one Saturday afternoon, I rode my bicycle to Walmart to do my grocery shopping. While I was coasting to the bike rack, a young lady passing by in a car laughed at me! I don’t take such things personally but it astonishes me why someone would laugh at a person riding a bicycle? All people ride it: the wealthy, the poor, the middle class, the common civilian, celebrities, politicians, athletes, etc. My use of the bicycle as my regular mode of transport enables me to cut down on my usage of fossil fuels and keeps me fit at the same time. As a nuclear engineer, I have to practice what I preach. That young lady has to be thankful that I am light-hearted and not like Duryodhan of the Indian epic, The Mahabharata. While I don’t believe in The Mahabharata, I am familiar with its story and treat it on par with Greek and Roman mythologies. Never-the-less, there are some good lessons to learn from the epic. Had I have been Duryodhan, I would have treated her laugh like that of Draupadi, the wife of the five Pandavas. Duryodhan, the eldest son of King Dhritarashtra and the eldest of the Kauravas, detested the Pandavas since childhood and was for the most part the least forgiving. Duryodhan was deeply insulted and vowed to take revenge against the Pandavas and Draupadi. In the court of King Dhritarashtra, Pandavas lost their kingdom in the game of dice to the Kauravas and Draupadi was humiliated by the likes of Duryodhan, Karna, and Dushashan. This all transpired despite the presence of the king and noble elders such as Bhisma, Vidur, sage Kripacharya and sage Drona. It was Krishna who saved her during the time of need while her five husbands were helpless. Aside from incidents like this, I have been “mooned” before. One incident was in Missouri when a group of young men drove past me repeatly and spoke ill of the NFL franchise Minnesota Vikings! Why? Because, I was wearing an Adrian Peterson jersey that a friend of mine sent as a gift! I just ignored them. If I were in Green Bay, Detroit, or Chicago, I would expect worse! After all, it is less probable that a St Louis Rams or Kansas City Chiefs fan would have any animosity towards the Minnesota Vikings!
