Launched the McCafé Training Academy at ITE College West on - TopicsExpress

Launched the McCafé Training Academy at ITE College West on Monday morning. This is an ITE training facility set up in collaboration with McDonalds. The café provides an authentic learning environment for the students to learn real skills in preparation for the workplace. Here the students learn to become baristas, and acquire other service skills. McDonalds also partners ITE in traineeship programme where the student spends 3 days at McDonalds learning quick-restaurant skills on the job, and 2 days at ITE learning the theory and other subjects. They earn an allowance of $1200 per month, and if employed by McDonalds upon graduation, there is a career progression plan for them. (More details of the apprenticeship programme are available in the media reports of yesterdays opening.) As part of the launch, students participated in a baking challenge which required them to come up with their own original recipes incorporating local tastes and flavours. The ITE students were very creative - they came up with entries like Bubur Cha Cha Mousse Cake, mini Chillie Crab quiches and Banana Carrot Cake. The winning entry was the Teh Tarik Cheesecake - more on that later!
