Laune Rangers crowned Mid Kerry U21 Champions for the first time in 11 years Mid Kerry U21 Championship Final 2014 Eugie Ferris Memorial Cup Laune Rangers took on Cromane/Glenbeigh/Glencar in the final of the Mid Kerry U21 Championship in Milltown on a beautiful Saturday evening last. Rangers found themselves playing against a light breeze & had the first chance of the game inside the first minute when John Tyther had a goal chance saved by Padraig McMahon CGG goalkeeper. The amalgamated side were first to register pts on the board when Tommy Cahill pointed two frees in quick succession to give his side the lead. Rangers had to wait 9 mins before Jack O’Connor, John O’Shea and Aaron Gamble gave the Laune-siders the lead, Danny O’Sullivan then scored a point for Cromane/Glenbeigh/Glencar to level the game up at the end of the first quarter. Jack O’Connor & John Tyther points for Rangers were cancelled out by points by Michael Kelly and Tommy Cahill (free). John O’Shea added two points before the break, the first a fine score from an acute angle & the second from a free. Half time Score Laune Rangers 0-07, Cromane/Glenbeigh/Glencar 0-05. The 2nd Half was less than a minute old when Rangers midfielder Michael O’Sullivan was brought down in the square to earn his side a penalty which was duly dispatched by Jack O’Connor to stretch the lead to five points. CGG raised their game again though and a sustained period of possession saw them eat into the Rangers lead with Tommy Cahill first slotting a free, before Calvin Teahan found the net for his side. Sean Teahan’s point levelled the game at 1-7 a piece before Tommy Cahill slotted another free to give his side the lead with a quarter of the game to go unfortunately this was to be their last score of the game for 17 mins, At this stage Laune Rangers took over the game digging their heels in to regain the lead when substitute David Costello found the net for a super goal on the 47th minute. This gave the momentum to the Laune-siders again, and victory was assured when, in quick succession, wing back Aaron Gamble got Rangers 3rd goal and Daniel Macbeth found the top corner with a stunning strike for the 4th. This gave Rangers an eight point lead with 5 minutes to go. Tommy Cahill stroked a final free for CGG but it was no more than a consolation score.
