Laura Bray Singleton challenged me to list my top ten books that have stuck with and/or influenced me: 1. Little House on the Prairie books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I reread these at least once a year, usually when I think my life is getting too challenging. Then I read about what Ma had to do and realize my life is pretty cushy. 2. Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery. Love Annes ever positive outlook on life and how she MAKES people like her. 3. At the Back of the North Wind by George MacDonald. My copy from 1909 was my dads when he was little and had the most ethereal illustrations. 4. The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame. Ratty and Mole and Badger (and Toad) were such real people. 5. Aesops Fables. Morality made accessible for young people. Super elegant little stories. 6. The River Why by David James Duncan. Fantastic dialogue and great pro-environment message with a bit of philosophy thrown in. 7. Night Shift by Stephen King. My brother got me this book of Kings short stories. So well written, I couldnt put it down, even though the stories scared the shit out of me. 8. Persuasion by Jane Austen. Love found, lost, love weathered the test of time and found again. Beautiful. 9. All books by James Herriott. My love for tales about small communities filled with colorful characters started with Herriotts stories. They make me laugh and cry and want to travel to England and Scotland. 10. Almost any book by Terry Pratchett. He is the master at satire, fantasy, and human observation and he is so dang clever. I love, love, love his books. Ok, Hilary Brugger, Rose Wooldridge, David Tanner, Lily Tanner and Sidney Arthofer - what books are on your top ten list?
