Laura... Died when I was 31. We had been dug in for a few dayz.. snow..white out type conditions..feets of the silly white stuff...all good as we lived prepared , food stuffs, water, generators. different forms of fuel supply,,,My braincell drifted as I was using the tractor to pull snow off the roof.. I crushed a valve on our propane tank...all the gas had escaped before I could cap my ah shit .. its okay, we used the wood burning stove until the roads cleared and they could refuel our propane.. The roads cleared and my curvaciously chunky, face of an angel woman was preparing a fresh made pecan pie while the tank was being filled...I was busy playing my broomaphone, I guess she thought she needed to bleed the gas lines, as she turned on the oven and closed the door to stand by to light the pilot. I looked up to her just as she was opening the door, I had no idea she was bleeding the line, she poked her head inside the oven cavity, struck the lighter...yes...BOOM...a massive fireball engulfed her hair and knitted blouse, she was rocketed backwards, the kettle of cooking oil on the stove top spilled onto her already inflamed angelic face...Horrific screams of terror filled the room as she gasped for air, the hot air intake actually burned her lungs... It was agonizing to watch and listen to her slow, most torcherous, painful death.. I did get up and empty the fire extinguisher on her and managed to keep her face sorta recognizable... I kissed her over chard face as The coroner took her body to finish being cremated. I replaced the door on the oven and cooked the pie...It was simply her best pecan pie she ever made... Im going to miss Laura I told bill, the insurance man when he came to deliver the life insurance check That Laura was a great pie chef, a warm fuzzy companion, a passionate lover and a mostly faithful wife... Yes , yes she was said bill, .. Then I said my prayer.. May God rest her soul in a colorful room full of slinkies, stairs and a black light.... Then bill bowed his head, said the Amen and handed me my 2 million dollar life insurance check. I asked bill if he wanted a slice of pecan pie, Lauras recipe, he declined with a small tear in his eye.. An excerpt from Tue lagoon Dan Patrix
