Laura Rubalcaba To Me Today at 4:27 AM Thank you to everyone who called in. I estimate that together we have made about 900 calls already this week. I am hearing that they will schedule a vote on a six-month extension for next week with possibly a pay-for from social security benefits or maybe the savings from the farm bill. While that makes me very hopeful that they are close to a deal, i think they are aiming way to low. Lets increase the pressure on them by increasing the ask. They are only trying to pass a 6-month extension, lets tell them we want a one-year extension. They are arguing over pay-fors. Ask them why they can vote to pay for wars and bank bailouts and just add that on the debt, but when hard-working Americans need a helping-hand, they suddenly care about where the money comes from. THEN ask them why they never EVER think about taxing millionaires more, especially seeing how many of these titans of finance guys got their filthy money shipping American jobs overseas, which is part of what caused all of this unemployment in the first place. Ask them about closing loopholes in the corporate tax code, taxing investment income at the same rate as earned income, increasing the estate tax, instituting a transaction tax on Wall Street, and/or stopping oil subsidies as a pay-for. Finally, ask them why we cant do any of these revenue enhancers and use them to pay-for a blasted JOBS PROGRAM. ok, i got a little carried away there. Here are the numbers of the three Senators thought to be most flippable - remember we only need one. Please call in on thursday and friday and we will see where we stand on Monday: Mark Kirk of Illinois at 202-224-2854 (washington office, if you have trouble getting through, here are the numbers for the district offices.) 312-886-3506 Chicago 217-492-5089 Springfield Dan Coats of Indiana at 202-224-5623 (washington office) (812) 754-0520 Scottsburg (317) 554-0750 Indianapolis (219) 663-2595 Crown Point (812) 465-6500 Evansville Rob Portman of Ohio at 202-224-3353, (washington office) 614-469-6774 Columbus 513-684-3265 Cincinnati 216-522-7095 Cleveland 419-259-3895 Toledo Sending these emails has given me a chance to meet another activist working on this same issue.
