Laura Selene was barely conscious as she lay in the hospital bed. - TopicsExpress

Laura Selene was barely conscious as she lay in the hospital bed. Her eyes were shut; she wore a drab hospital gown; her arms full of IVs; and doctors ran in and out of her room constantly. Her parents caressed her orange hair that was once vibrant. It looked more like unpolished copper: dull and it was limp. “Do you think she’ll live?” her mother Alice asked a doctor. The doctor shook her head and said in a sympathetic voice, “I doubt it.” Her parents decided to leave to gather all of the relatives to say goodbye to Laura. At that moment, Marie Callahan rushed into the room, blond hair flying behind her. “Oh Laura!” she gasped. She fell to her knees and sobbed, “What have we done to you?” She turned to the doctor and cried, “It’s my fault. I should have been more aware of what was going on.” The doctor patted her shoulder and introduced herself. Her name was Dr. Jan Rana. She straightened her white coat and glasses before she whispered in a professional voice, “Why don’t you tell me happened.” Marie gulped, wiped away a few tears and replied, “Okay, here’s how it started.”
