Going to the TCSS State Social Studies Conference 3.13.2015 at the Memphis Hilton will be one way to get some top notch teaching ideas! Laurie Ellen Green says that I just had an idea for a jigsaw group activity to do for a Field Trip Friday next year, exploring all the large islands off the coasts of the continents. I thought I would have groups randomly draw an island: Falkland Islands (SA); Hawaii, The Bahamas and Cuba (NA); Tasmania and New Zealand (Aus); Sri Lanka, Japan and The Philippines (Asia); Madagascar (Afr); Iceland (Eur). Then they would work in groups to discover things about their place, later sharing their gathered knowledge with the whole class.
