Lavender essential oil is a versatile first aid remedy for bug - TopicsExpress

Lavender essential oil is a versatile first aid remedy for bug bites, rashes, sunburn, itchiness, insomnia and anxiety. It offers relief for many summertime complaints, and is safe externally for kids and pregnant women. Lavender essential oil is anti-microbial, anti-iflammatory, hypnotic and anxiolytic. I keep a bottle in my first aid kit, along with one in my car and one by my bedside. Add a couple drops to fresh aloe gel to alleviate the discomfort of sunburn. For bug bites: Wet a washcloth with ice-cold water and add 5 drops of lavender essential oil. Rubbing the washcloth on the bites will lessen itchiness and inflammation. A couple drops on the pillow will help bring on slumber, an especially useful trick for children who have trouble going to sleep during the long daylight hours of summer. For headache-rub a drop or two into the temples, along with one drop of peppermint essential oil (diluted in a teaspoon of massage oil). Keep all essential oils out of the reach of children, and do not use them internally. Lavender essential oil is considered safe to apply externally without dilution (in moderation), but it is prudent to try a small amount of the inside of the elbow initially, to rule out any possible skin sensitivities.
