Law Mefor posted the following on his [Facebook] timeline and had this to say about it: “WHY ARE PEOPLE SURPRISED ORKAS FACTION OF MEND ENDORSED BUHARI? During Amnesty negotiations when President YarAdua was still around, MEND broke into two. The lesser faction led my Henry Orka refused to take the Amnesty offered the Niger Delta militants; The faction vowed to continue with the struggle until the Independent Niger Delta State was achieved. The bigger MEND joined the Amnesty Programme and shunned Orka and his little group. Orka left the country in search of arms/support and because Nigeria was no longer safe for him, as both his fellow militants and FGN were very angry with him. Fact is: Orkas faction was no longer recognized by Government because the widow offered the militant groups to embrace Amnesty Programme had closed. Orka planned the bombing of Abuja on Independence Day 2010, to announce he was still fighting. But with his arrest MEND ceased operations and the remnants are today, endorsing Buhari for President. If this little faction is of any consequence, why have they not thrown a single bomb since 2010? I am also surprised that some people are surprised that Orka’s faction is endorsing Buhari. Some have also said that the President absolved MEND from the Abuja bombing. The President was right again because he would be contradicting himself by reco9gning the Henry Orkas dissident MEND. The real MEND joined Amnesty. Henry Orka refused and said he would fight on unless autonomy was gained by the Niger Delta. The President was right by saying that it was not the real MEND that did the bombing of Eagle Square; the dissident MEND did it. The real MEND are still with the President and Orka and his faction have never been and will never be. So why are you surprised the faction of MEND led by Orka is endorsing Muhammadu Buhari? In fact, I would have been surprised if they supported Goodluck Jonathan. But question is: is Orkas faction supporting Buhari in the hope of gaining independence for Niger Delta in the Buhari Presidency since this is the ultimate reason they refused to join the Amnesty Programme? I hope APC is still working for unity and for One Nigeria because there appears to be a contradiction here”
