Law enforcement does not have the benefit of hindsight at the - TopicsExpress

Law enforcement does not have the benefit of hindsight at the moment they are called on to make what could be a life or death decision. The San Francisco officer who shot a man holding an air gun had no way of knowing his weapon was hardly a weapon. When I saw the news, I thought of many conversations I had with offenders who were tired of living in prison with long sentences stretching out before them. Rather than killing themselves, they thought about doing something that would make one of the security guards kill them. One or two over the years reported they had attempted suicide in the free world by drawing the fire of law enforcement. Obviously those plans had not worked out well. I personally will do everything in my power to make law enforcement successful at their work. If stopped, I will answer questions, provide ID, be respectful, express appreciation for the officers dedication and commitment, and accept any ticket I am given. (Yep, I have been stopped for the heavy foot). I also will also provide information that may be important in the prevention or detection of crime. Thats what citizens in a civilized society do.
