Law enforcement officers from three agencies issued a total of 151 summonses during a red light initiative on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus this week. VCU Police coordinated patrols with the Richmond Police Department and Virginia State Police to closely monitor intersections along the West Broad Street and Belvidere Street corridors on the morning of July 29. Looking forward to the fall semester, we expect a high volume of pedestrian traffic on campus starting in mid-August. The goal of this targeted enforcement effort was to remind drivers to obey red lights, give pedestrians the right-of-way and follow other traffic laws. Main vehicular thoroughfares in Richmond are also used by pedestrians, including VCU students, faculty and staff, and we encourage drivers to be mindful of their driving habits. Thanks to the RPD and VSP for their involvement --- VCU Police routinely partners with other agencies to promote safety on VCU’s campuses.
