#LawEnforcementReports: ____________________ Indiana State Police Week in Review ____________________ Sept 27,2013 __________ Tip Leads Troopers to Meth Labs and Arrest ------------------------------------------------------ Parke County—Around 8:30 last night, September 26, a tip led Indiana State Police Troopers from the Putnamville District Meth Lab Suppression Team to a rural Parke County residence where they located an active methamphetamine lab in the bed of a pickup truck and one in the trunk of an abandoned car, as well as just over 10 grams of finished product (methamphetamine). Troopers also recovered four long guns and two handguns with one of the long guns having the serial numbers filed off. Trooper arrested six individuals and placed them in the Parke County Jail. The residence was located at 6160 North Saddleclub Road in northeastern Parke County. Arrested: Larry Kelly, age 54, of Waveland, IN…owner of residence Jared Mashburn, age 31, Darlington, IN. Roger Thayer, age 57, Crawfordsville, IN. Jess Cook, age 27, Waveland, IN. Greta Harris, age 41, Waveland, IN. Timmy Hodges, age 51, Crawfordsville, IN. Charges: Manufacturing Methamphetamine, B felony; Possession of Meth D felony; Illegal Storage of Anhydrous, D felony; Dumping Controlled Waste, D felony…for all six Kelly was charged additionally with felony Possession of a Firearm with Altered Serial Number and Maintaining a Common Nuisance, D felony Mashburn, Thayer, Cook, Harris, and Hayes were additionally charged with Visiting a Common Nuisance, A misdemeanor Mashburn was also charged with felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Violent Felon. The case was investigated by Trooper Adam Edwards. Assisting were Troopers Shilo Raulston, Brent Robinson, Michael Organ, and Parke County Sheriff’s deputies. Two Truck Crash Closes I-65 ----------------------------------- White County-A crash involving two trucks early this morning closed I-65 north bound when one of the trucks pulling double trailers caught on fire. Preliminary investigation by Trooper Kent Wainscott revealed that at approximately 1:30 A.M., this Friday, September 27, 2013, morning a USF Holland International straight truck, driven by James S Wilson, 32 of Missouri parked his truck on the outer shoulder of I-65 north bound at the 187 mile marker (this is just south of the Fowler/Brookston exit) for unknown mechanical problems. Wilson had activated his four-way emergency flashers on his truck before exiting. Wilson walked around to the front passenger side of his truck when it was hit causing Wilson to be partially pinned under the front passenger drive tire. Wilson was able to free himself and was taken to Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital in Lafayette with non-life threatening injuries. The straight truck was loaded with general freight. A Fed Ex semi pulling two trailers, driven by Vivian George Rose, 59 of Illinois, went off the road for unknown reasons and struck the USF Holland truck. The Fed Ex semi continued on for approximately 300 yards and came to rest under the 500 West overpass where it caught fire and became fully engulfed. Rose was able to exit the semi and was taken to Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital in Lafayette with non-life threatening injuries. The Fed Ex semi was loaded with general freight. Assisting: Brookston and Monticello Fire Departments, Tippecanoe Emergency Ambulance Service, White County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana Department of Transportation and Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sept. 26,2013 ___________ Palmyra Couple Arrested on Theft and Fraud Related Charges ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Husband and Wife from Palmyra Arrested on Several Theft and Fraud Related Charges Harrison/Clark Counties- On September 10, 2013, Trooper Nathan Teusch, from the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg began an investigation after a male subject, business owner, in Harrison County, contacted the Indiana State Police and requested an investigation for theft. The victim was allegedly employing David W. Haycraft, 48, and his wife Vanessa D. Haycraft, 50, both from Palmyra in Harrison County. During their alleged employment, the Haycraft’s had allegedly stolen a check from their employer and cashed it at the Sam’s Club in Clarksville, IN for over $600.00. Trooper Teusch completed the investigation and turned it in to the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office for arrest warrants. On September 24th, arrest warrants were issued out of the Clark County Circuit Court #4. David W. Haycraft was charged with Forgery, C Felony; Check Fraud, D Felony; Theft, D Felony; Fraud on a Financial Institution, C Felony and False Informing, B Misdemeanor. Vanessa D. Haycraft was charged with Forgery, C Felony; Check Fraud, D Felony; Theft, D Felony; Fraud on a Financial Institution, C Felony and False Informing, B Misdemeanor. In the evening hours of September 24th, troopers from the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg arrested David and Vanessa Haycraft as they were leaving their residence in Palmyra. They were both transported to and incarcerated at the Clark County Jail. This investigation is continuing. Peru Couple Arrested for Theft ------------------------------------- Peru – Tuesday night, a theft of money from a Peru, IN, restaurant led to the arrests of Dylan Gordon, 19, and his girlfriend, Sydney Ewing, 19, both from Peru. The couple was incarcerated in the Miami County Jail to face a felony charge of theft. Tuesday night, Indiana State Police officers responded to the Subway restaurant at 2964 West Miami County Road 100 North, after a manger reported that over $500.00 in United States currency was missing from the restaurant’s safe. The criminal investigation by Trooper Adam Moor revealed that Gordon allegedly walked behind the restaurant’s counter, opened a safe, and removed cash. He then exited the restaurant. Evidence suggests he was able to gain access and open the safe because Ewing had allegedly instructed him on how to do so. Ewing was an employee at the restaurant. During the course of the investigation, Moor obtained a search warrant for the couple’s home and vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, officers purportedly recovered over $500.00 in United States currency. Trooper Moor was assisted with this investigation by Indiana State Police Sergeant T.J. Zeiser, Trooper Luke Bowyer, and officers from the Peru Police Department. All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. Routine ISP Flyover Nets Marijuana ----------------------------------------- Sullivan County-Around 10:15 this morning, a routine flyover of rural northeastern Sullivan County by Indiana State Police Marijuana Eradication Troopers, has netted 68 marijuana plants, approximately 8 pounds of processed marijuana, and numerous drug paraphernalia items. Shortly after noon, troopers secured a Sullivan County search warrant for the home and property located at 8963 East State Road 48 near the Sullivan and Clay County line. Troopers searched the ranch style home and discovered the processed marijuana in various locations within the home and plants at three separate plots in a wooded area near the home. The estimated street value of the marijuana was $75,000. The plants ranged from approximately five to seven feet in height. Arrested: Charles B. Beaver, age 53, of 8963 E. SR 48, Jasonville, IN. (co-inhabitant of the home) Charges: Cultivating Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana, and Maintaining a Common Nuisance, all Class D felonies, and Possession of Paraphernalia, Class A misdemeanor. Incarcerated in the Sullivan County Jail on $28,000 bond. The investigation is ongoing and one suspect remains at large. Investigating the case were ISP Sergeant Jared Nicoson and Trooper Jason Kempf. Assisting were troopers Brent Robinson, Erick Smith, Ted Robertson, Michael Organ and Sergeant Joe Watts. Troopers Respond to Interstate 70 Trailer Fire ------------------------------------------------------- Vigo County—Just after midnight this morning, Indiana State Police and Riley Fire Department responded to a commercial vehicle fire on Interstate 70 westbound near the 12 mile marker. Ronald Spotts, age 53, of Addison, New York was westbound on I-70 and noticed his box trailer loaded with approximately 46,000 pounds of sauerkraut appeared to be on fire. Spotts pulled to the emergency shoulder and disengaged his tractor from the trailer. Riley Fire Department extinguished the fire and no injuries were reported. Westbound traffic was stopped for 40 minutes for fire suppression.
